More than 25 years in clinical practice
From a child’s first eye exam to glaucoma, diabetic eye disease, and the changes that arrive quietly with age — Dr. Gospodarek has spent a quarter century looking after other people’s eyes. MacuMist came out of those 25 years.

A career built on prevention
Dr. Gospodarek believes the best eye care happens before anything goes wrong. His exams go well past “which is better, one or two” — using modern retinal imaging to find the early signatures of glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease years before a patient notices a single change in their vision.
And when the exam is finished, the conversation usually turns to what happens between visits. Screens and daylight. Blood sugar. Sleep. And, more often than most patients expect, nutrition — because the retina is metabolically one of the hungriest tissues in the human body, and what reaches it matters.
That last conversation is the one he had thousands of times. It is also the one that eventually turned into a product.
The founding story
Why he made MacuMist
For years the advice was the same, and so was the outcome. Dr. Gospodarek would tell a patient which nutrients their eyes needed, and they would leave with good intentions and a bottle of large pills. Six months later, many of them had stopped. Some could not swallow them comfortably. Some simply forgot. And the ones who did stay consistent were still losing much of the dose to the digestive system before it ever reached the back of the eye.
“I got tired of recommending something I knew most people weren’t absorbing.”
Dr. Jason Gospodarek, OD
So he went looking for a better delivery route and found one in nano-sizing — reducing nutrient particles small enough to absorb through the tissues of the mouth rather than surviving a trip through the gut. Working with a nano-sizing specialist, he built MacuMist: ten clinical eye nutrients in a cherry-flavored oral spray. Five sprays into the mouth. No pills, no water, nothing to choke down.
It is the same recommendation he had always made. It is just finally in a form his patients would actually keep using.

What he sees every week
Twenty-five years of general and medical optometry, with a particular interest in the conditions that develop slowly enough to be missed — and in the nutrition that supports the eye through them.
